Bringing the Best of Small French Vineyards Directly to Irish Doors

FineWine is Ireland's first online wine cellar specialising in exclusive French regional wines. Gael Jauvert is from France and moved to Ireland a few years ago — frustrated by the difficulty of finding quality French wine at fair prices. Working directly with small, independent vineyards in France, he built FineWine to share what he loves with wine lovers all across Ireland.

Goal:
To build a clean, easy-to-use ecommerce website where Gael could sell French regional wines directly to customers across Ireland. The site needed to reflect FineWine's unique personality — not just another online wine shop, but a personal connection to France and its small, independent winemakers.

Approach:
We designed a clean, brand-led store that matched the FineWine logo and the audience it serves. The focus was on a fast, enjoyable shopping experience. We built a custom fill-a-box feature using a combination of custom code and WooCommerce software — letting customers select three bottles and build their own box before ordering.

Result:
A fast, distinctive wine shop that stands out from every other online retailer in Ireland. Customers can browse the virtual wine cellar, search by preference, fill their box, and add a personalised gift note — all in a few clicks. Gael can manage the store, update products, and post Robin Updates himself.

The Client

FineWine is run by Gael Jauvert, a Frenchman living in Ireland who was passionate about making genuinely good French wine accessible and affordable here. Working directly with small, independent wine producers across French regions, Gael sources bottles that most Irish wine lovers would never encounter in a supermarket or off-licence. FineWine delivers nationwide across Ireland. Orders over €150 include free shipping.

The Challenge

Online wine retail in Ireland tends to look and feel the same — generic shops with generic layouts. Gael had a distinctive vision and a unique product offering. The challenge was building a shopping experience that felt as special as the wines themselves. The fill-a-box concept — where customers build their own three-bottle crate — also required custom development to work smoothly and intuitively.

Our Approach

1. Clean, Brand-Led Design The design is built around the FineWine brand identity — elegant, warm, and distinctly French in feel. The layout is clean and uncluttered so the wines take centre stage.

2. Custom Fill-a-Box Feature The signature ordering experience at FineWine is the box builder. Customers choose three bottles from the cellar and fill their own crate. We built this using custom code and WooCommerce to make the process fast and intuitive. It reduces shipping costs for Gael and creates a more satisfying experience for customers.

3. Wine Search Tool A dedicated search tool lets customers find wine by preference — ideal for someone who knows roughly what they like but wants to explore the cellar quickly.

4. Curated Selections Ready-made selections — including Robin’s Prestige, Red, and White collections — give gift buyers and less confident shoppers an easy entry point. Each selection is thoughtfully curated and clearly presented.

5. Personalised Gift Notes When customers order as a gift, Gael can include a free personalised note in the box. This small touch adds real warmth to the experience and makes FineWine a stand-out gift option for special occasions and corporate gifting.

6. Robin Updates Blog A blog section — Robin Updates — gives Gael a place to share news, deliveries, vineyard stories, and wine recommendations. It builds personality and supports SEO over time.

7. Full SEO and Schema The site is fully optimised for search with schema markup for the business and products. Social media links connect the store to FineWine’s wider presence online.

The Design Solution

The finished website is fast, elegant, and unmistakably FineWine. The fill-a-box journey is smooth and enjoyable. The wine cellar is easy to browse and search. Curated selections make gifting simple. The Robin Updates blog gives the brand a voice and keeps the site fresh. It is a wine shop with a genuine personality — and that shows from the first scroll.

The Outcome

FineWine now has a website that does justice to what Gael has built. Customers across Ireland can discover small French vineyards they would never find elsewhere, build their own box, and have it delivered to their door. The store is easy for Gael to manage and grow. And with free shipping over €150 and a personalised gift note option, FineWine has become a go-to for gifts, dinner parties, and special occasions nationwide.

A wine search tool, curated selections, and a personalised gift note option round out the shopping experience. Gael also has a blog — Robin Updates — to share news, vineyard stories, and recommendations.

The result is an online wine shop with a genuine personality — one that connects Irish customers directly to the winemakers behind every bottle.”
